Meet Megan

Megan Shepard was born in Upper Arlington, Ohio in 1985, into a loving family. With her father working in sales and her mother as a nurse, Megan grew up with strong values of honesty, hard work, and accountability. She has two brothers, and their close-knit family bond remains unbreakable to this day. Megan's upbringing included regular attendance at First United Methodist church, where she found guidance and a sense of community.

From an early age, Megan was driven and involved in sports, eventually earning a diving scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She later transferred to Western Carolina University, where she graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, accompanied by a minor in sociology. In 2009, Megan was accepted into Charlotte School of Law and proudly graduated in the fall of 2011.

During her time in law school, Megan embraced the joys and challenges of motherhood, giving birth to her first son, Hayes, and subsequently passing the North Carolina Bar in March of 2012. The following April, Megan welcomed her second son, Bennett, into the world. Eager to begin her legal career, Megan joined The Neece Law Firm in 2013, specializing in family law. In 2014, she transitioned to the Gastonia branch of Minick Law Firm, expanding her legal expertise.

In 2016, Megan's family grew once more with the arrival of her daughter, Celia. Demonstrating her dedication to the community, Megan joined the Public Defender's Office in February 2017 and has since been passionately advocating for justice. Volunteering her time has always been a priority, and since 2018, she has been an active member of the Gastonia East Rotary, currently serving as their membership chair. From 2015 to 2018, Megan served as a Gaston County Bar officer, contributing her skills and insights to benefit the legal community. She remains involved in the community service/outreach committee.

Megan's faith has been a guiding force throughout her life, and since 2016, her family has been proud members of City Church in Gastonia. Megan's experiences as a mother, her dedication to public service, and her extensive legal background have shaped her into a compassionate and effective advocate for justice and the well-being of the community.

With her strong values, legal expertise, and unwavering commitment to serving Gaston County, Megan Shepard seeks to bring her passion for justice and her determination to uphold the law as the District Court Judge.
